During the last month of school, I plan send a letter to Mr. Smithson stating why we need a dance team, and/or meet with Mr. Smithson and Mr. Roberts to discuss starting a dance team at KHS. I also plan to finish constructing my website and adding fun information about dance teams. Mrs. Sutton could help me meet my goal by going over my letter and possible setting up a meeting with Mr. Smithson and Mr. Roberts.
How did you work over the last two months to address the five step plan you laid out in Blog Post #6? If you haven’t made progress, explain why. Be accountable. Explain how you will make the progress you need to make.Over the past two months I have addressed my five step plan by adding more information to my website. I have found more videos that I want to add to my page, but I am still working on adding them to my page. I have approached my peers to take part in my interest survey as well. I am still working on writing the letter to send to the school board.
Read the article "How Geniuses Think." Respond to the following: Describe the author's interpretation of Genius and how it differs from conventional definitions of Genius. What are the shared strategies of geniuses? How does your Genius Hour project encourage you to use some of these strategies? The author of this article's interpretation of Genius Hour is the ability to think outside of the box with your own ideas and problem solve. The author does not use the word "Genius" as being very smart, but as being a problem solver and rational thinker. To be a genius you need to be able to be open to knew ideas and think outside the box.
What is your 5 step plan to meet your Genius Hour Goal by May 6th?1.) Finish constructing my website so that all of the information needed is on the site and posted for every one to see.
2.) Find videos of other dance team and informational sites about high school dance teams to show the school board. 3.) Get my website noticed by my peers to get interest and to get stats from my survey. 4.) Write a letter to the school board as to why we need a high school dance team, the benefits of the team, and also include the numbers received from my survey. 5.) Finalize my project with a meeting with the school board and depending on how the meeting goes, I will plan accordingly. Which aspect of your Genius Hour project do you enjoy most? Which aspect do you enjoy least? The part of my Genius Hour Project that I enjoy the most is that I am dealing with something that I really enjoy. I am broadening my education in the dance world and at the same time working towards a goal I have been wanting since I was in middle school. The part that I like least is that I need to put together a plan to give to the administration to get them to agree to a dance team.
After watching Ken Robinson's Ted Talk about education, express your thoughts on how his views do/do not relate to the concept of Genius Hour. What about Ken Robinson's views do you agree/disagree with.I think that Ken Robinson's Ted Talk really related to the concept of Genius Hour. The whole point of Genius Hour is to help kids learn in the best possible way for their particular learning style and lets students use their own interests and imagination. This allows students to have the opportunity to express themselves and not only taking standardized tests to show the kind of student they are. This way students are allowed to physically learn through their personal interests instead of memorization.
Now that you have taken part in Genius Hour for a marking period, how can you relate to the article? Do you agree/disagree with the info in the article? Do you have anything new to add to the discussion?Since I have been working on my Genius Hour project for a marking period, I understand the difficulties and the benefits from this kind of project. I agree with this article on the fact that Genius Hour allows students to take control of their learning and creativity. It is a great way to let students explore their own interests and to move and their own pace. It is extremely beneficial in the way that a student learns to do something on their own and benefit others. I also agree that a Genius Hour project is not for everyone. Some students need the directions and specific assignments. I think that students really should have an option to choose whether or not they would like to participate in a Genius Hour project. Maybe teachers could provide a different assignment for those who need to be told what to do.
Now that your Genius Hour project is underway, what do you predict will be your biggest obstacle? How do you intend to overcome that obstacle? Now that my Genius Hour project is underway, I predict that my biggest obstacle will be convincing the school board to allow us to create another athletic team here at Kingsford High School and proving that it is a good decision. There will be obstacles when it comes to fitting the team into the athetic booster's budget. I also think that there will be obstacles when it comes to finding a qualified coach and also finding competitions/meets to compete at. There may also be the obstacle of when the dance team would be performing. I know that at Iron Mountain, their dance team performs at the football games. It may be a struggle to find a time during games when the dancers could perform since we already have a band who performs a show at half-time and cheerleaders who cheer the entire game. I think these obstacles will be hard to tackle, but hopefully there will be a KHS dance team when its all said and done.
Describe what your genius hour project would look like if you could make it the very best it could be.If my genius hour project were to be the very best it could be, their would be a thriving dance team here at Kingsford High School. The team would be a great asset to Kingsford High School and would draw plenty of positive attention to the school as well. Hopefully, the team would be filled with both boys and girls. I also hope that the dance team would go to high school dance competitions and do exceedingly well. If my genius hour was the best it could be, everyone would want to be apart of the KHS Dance Team. I think many more people will crawl out of their comfort zones and join in the new extra curricular activity. Also, the dance team will open up something new for the students in the school who love to dance, but don't have any other sport to participate in.
